2008

image10291

The First Annual Athens Storytelling Festival held on Oct. 24-27, 2007 was a great success thanks to the many who attended, the many contributors and dedicated volunteers who made it possible and of-course the fantastic Storytellers.

Special thanks to Charter Communications for their prime sponsorship and advertisements.

The second Annual Festival will be held on Halloween week in 2008. Several storytellers have already signed up for the Festival.

Details will be published on this web site as they develop.

Imagine a crisp October weekend sitting with friends and family under a shady canopy. situated on the Historic courthouse square in downtown Athens, Alabama listening to stories of adventure and excitement—a place where memories and magic are captured and spun into tales that make you laugh and cry. Hear stories that tell of a time that used to be, of folk in distant lands or the people next door. Glimpse into the past and live the imaginary. Learn more about your parents, your children, yourself.

Discover this and more at the second Athens Storytelling Festival on the Square.

Our community is being given the opportunity to participate in the oldest form of education. Cultures from around our world have been using it to pass down their beliefs, traditions, and history to future generations. A large, circus-type tent will be set up in downtown Athens, Alabama for the performances of professional, nationally syndicated storytellers who will demonstrate and model the art of storytelling. Storytelling is traditional, creative, educational, cultural, personal, and therapeutic. The stories told will seem spontaneous, but not without hours of coaching and practice-the storytellers will captivate their audience by using eye contact, their voice movements, and expressions to bring their stories to life in the listeners’ minds and hearts
